I’m going to be hosting a swap over on swap-bot, maybe you’d like to join? Here’s the listing as it appears:
A kitschy/corny postcard swap
I love those postcards that have kitschy/outdated/corny jokes and photographs on them – I think they’re hilarious! Some examples of the postcards I’m speaking of (if you happen to have not seen any) are:
– “San Diego at Night†(all black postcard)
– “A corny postcard from Arizona†(photo of corn as the background)
– “I finally found a winter home in Minnesota†(picture of a small fishing shed on a frozen lake)
– Postcards of city airports or other unusual locations
– Another favorite postcard I have is of a kid with French fries stuck in his nose!
I hope you get the idea! If you have questions, please let me know. You will have three partners to send one postcard to. International swappers welcome. Newbies with full profiles are welcome to join this swap. Ratings below 4.5 will be banned.
View & sign up over at swap-bot.

yesterday i headed off to the county fair with alyssa. alyssa is my fair-going buddy, we like to do the same things at the fair every year and we’ve very habitual creatures. we see the same things every year and we never get tired of it. the fair used to be referred to as “the del mar fair” which really is still called that by anyone who’s a local, but they changed the name to “the san diego county fair” a couple of year’s ago since san diego is a more well known place than del mar (that’s my guess, anyway).
we always start the fair off by going through the garden exhibit. this year’s theme of the fair was “a salute to heroes” and a lot of the displays seemed to fall short of really carrying out the theme. a few did a good job, such as the fireman setting which used a fire hose as the fountain head and another display that used yellow flowers to form a peace ribbon. after that, we started in on the food, which is the real reason for our yearly trips to the fair. i started out with the garlic battered mushrooms. i also had finger steaks with fried zucchini (not something i would get again, it was just okay), a date shake (which was disappointing and not nearly date-y enough), a half slice of sourdough bread covered in melted cheeses, share of a blooming onion, and some fried oreos that alyssa got. alyssa also tried the krispy kreme donut sandwich, which is a krispy kreme jelly donut with fried chicken, and i had a bite of it. it seemed like a very extreme form of chicken and waffles, or rather, in the same ballpark as least – chicken with sweet stuff. i felt like grease might start streaming through my veins after this adventure, but it’s always worth it. luckily it’s only once a year. i also bought some blueberry cheesecake flavored lollipops, to be shared later with my boyfriend when i see him next.
we checked out the woodwork exhibit which is also one of our favorites before stopped for pepsi’s and sitting, cursing the sun when it came out from behind the cloud cover. then we swung over and looked at some of the animals – less than usual since we got distracted when we noticed that they were doing demo’s for the wii. we did a bowling demo. i sucked at it. i didn’t understand what i was doing at first which is also why i think i sucked, but i’m also just bad at bowling, whether its real or generated. we watched reo speedwagon for about 20 minutes as we munched on the blooming onion, got bored of them and then left. we briefly looked at the artwork and then headed out, not going up for the usual photography exhibit that we usually hit. we probably would have looked at it if we hadn’t gone to see reo speedwagon, but we were getting tired and just decided to leave. in any case, i love the fair and i love my friend alyssa! also, i love the foods. mmm.
here, you can go see the rest of my photos from the fair, if you want to. no pressure.

I hardly did a thing this weekend. I slept a bunch. I did some grocery shopping so I would be good this week and bring my lunch to work and eat breakfast at home and stop spending extra money so I could maybe actually save some money instead and pay off things. I flaked today and forgot to do a variety of things, like calling to make multiple doctor’s appointments (yes, multiple), calling in to refill my prescriptions, getting my car washed, canceling things I don’t want or need, applying for my passport (I’m not going anyway, but with the laws changing soon it’s a good thing to have) and other things that I probably forgot about already. They’re such minor little things but they all add up to make me feel unproductive because they’re things I put off doing. I’m generally a happy, mellow, girl but sometimes I get in little funks where I think I’m uncool and unproductive and unloved. But I know it’s a silly passing phase. Because really, I know I rock and that I’m cool and I make neat things. Sometimes my head tells me dumb stuff and I have to ask it why it’s being all dumb and it never has a good answer for me. Maybe I should just stop talking to myself. Hmmmm.
I did do some fun things this weekend! And I wasn’t all stupid mopey like this all weekend, that was just tonight. But yesterday Maya, Julia and I ventured to Ocean Beach to hit the Dog Beach. Since it’s June and somewhat warm and partially sunny (sorry, tourists), there were enough people there to make parking difficult. But we eventually found a spot and hiked over to the beach. Maya drank the ocean a few times, unfazed each time, and ran in circles around Julia and I. Then we went over to Hudson Bay Seafood for some tasty eats and then (yes, more food) to Gelato Vero for some gelato. They let me bring Maya in which I thought was super nice. I got the chocolate hazelnut gelato (yum) and Julia got pistachio. More days should end with gelato and less dumb thoughts.

This is the digital scrapbook thingy I made for this swap. If you’re on dial-up (is anyone on dial-up anymore?) this probably isn’t very friendly for you, as I was too lazy to really lay it out properly. I tried to originally do it as a PDF file, but it kept screwing up and then I thought, “Woman, you know web design. What the hell are you thinking?”. But by then my steam had run out so it’s not as pretty as I would have liked if I had do it all web-style from the beginning.

You’re getting sleepy at work. What better way to try and wake yourself up with a little blogging action? That almost sounds hot. I’ve been busy lately. I saw They Might Be Giants at the Belly Up recently. I actually went out dancing at a place called the Air Conditioned Lounge which was cooler than I thought it would be with its very retro chic décor. It didn’t even remotely remind me of Plan B in Pacific Beach which used to scare me when I walked by with its fog machine and laser lights. Definitely more my style. Last night Jacob and I went to a Padres vs. Dodgers game. It was pretty damn cool. I forgot how much I enjoy going to the ballpark. I feel like I got a workout just trying to get to our seats up in the bleachers, but it was a good time, despite the rowdy Dodgers fan around us who shut up after we scored a run to win the game. Woo!
Here’s some other random information just for kicks:
Last thing I ate: a package of gem crumb donuts. Probably not the best way to start a morning, but damn, they are tasty.
Book I am currently reading: Love in the Time of Cholera, by Gabriel Garcia Marquez. But I am about to switch over to Book #5 of Harry Potter in anticipation of the movie
Last movie I saw: Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End. Excellent. Stay through the end of the credits if you haven’t seen it already.
Currently listening to: “Unmarked Helicopters†by Soul Coughing. The iPod is on shuffle.
Crafty things I’m working on: Some “Star Wars†bottle cap magnets (I love bottle cap magnets). I also got a plain t-shirt for pretty cheap that I plan on doing an iron-on transfer with, but I have to find my iron-on transfers… and I have no idea where they are. Probably underneath something. I also have a couple of swaps to work on, one being gathering a collection of 10 things of my favorite color (green!). I just like swaps.
I wish: I was still asleep in bed. I could use a couple more hours of sleepy time.
For lunch: I don’t know what I’ll be having for lunch. I didn’t have time to make my lunch this morning. I’ve been on a streak for getting the $1 loco salad at El Pollo Loco lately. It’s tasty and it costs a dollar. Hell yes.
