cake show photos

I created a web gallery of the cakes I saw last weekend at the San Diego Cake Club’s cake show. I think the best part was the “Junior” category to see what the kids came up with. A few of them I thought were obviously helped by mom (a cake by a 5 year old probably won’t look that perfect!) but I was really impressed with a lot of them. I tried to get a picture of the age as well on the Junior related cakes.

Here’s one of the cakes in the teenage category:

The gallery’s not in any kind of order, but all of the cakes are super cute and just makes me want to bake more. It also makes me wonder if I could possibly submit something in the future. In any case, it makes me want to learn a bit more and take some cake decorating classes. I’m going to start with just doing some cupcakes. Since Easter is coming up soon, I was thinking of making bunny cupcakes. I don’t know what this means yet, but I’m formulating some ideas in my head as we speak!

organization: finished

Before:
desk
After:
cleaned desk

I finally finished organizing my desk! I removed all the cardboard boxes today and organized my filing cabinet. There’s still one folder to go, but hey, I think I can give myself some slack. I filed away everything that had been sitting in a box and put everything else away. My in/out boxes are being used properly (in the picture you can see I already have some “in” items). The only thing I have to left to do from my list is put my old phone on eBay (which doesn’t really have to do with the organization of my desk, but I had put it on my list) and to donate the stuff I don’t want anymore. It looks so nice and clean now! I have been making a very good effort lately to not let additional things pile up so I hope I can keep up with it. Yay!

In other news, yesterday I went to a cake show in La Jolla. The San Diego Cake Club holds an annual cake show. The show benefits the Muscular Dystrophy Association. They had a raffle and a cupcake corner where you could decorate your own cupcakes. They also had demos for different cake techniques. I took a bunch of pictures of cakes which I’ll stick up here later. They were some amazing cakes! It made me want to make some cupcakes last night, but alas, I didn’t have enough eggs and not enough will to go out and get eggs. But soon! Cupcakes. Mmmm.

Here’s a photo of one of my favorite cakes from the show. I just like how whimsical it is. Plus, I just little edible frying pans with eggs and bacon. It’s cute!

I ordered a new lunchbag last week just like I was thinking of doing. I haven’t received it yet, but the girl who made it told me that she mailed it on Saturday and sent me a photo of it and I’m totally excited to get it. So excited, I had to blog about it while at work. Hell yes.

Now, to think of things to bring for lunch this week…

a new way to tote my lunch

I’ve been considering getting a new lunch bag for work. I’ve been bringing my lunch more often lately which is a good thing, but I am uninspired by my lunch bag. It’s actually my mom’s old lunch bag – it’s red, and square and rigid and basically boring. I want something new and cute and something I am excited to fill up in the morning to tote along with me to work carrying my snacks and goodies for the day.

lunch_bag.jpgI’m very interested in this handmade “design your own” lunch bag I saw on Etsy this morning. Since it can be customized, I can chose my own fabric (she even allows for the option of you picking another fabric online that she doesn’t already have, for an extra cost), what size I want, what kind of pockets and all that. I picked through her sold items already and saw she had also made a custom sized one for someone’s camera bag that was more square shaped and I was thinking maybe I would want something like that, too. Her fabric choices were okay, nothing really screamed out at me but I think I’ll look again and consider a custom fabric option, too.

What I also enjoyed from searching for lunch on Etsy where these fun finds:
Felt hamburger, drumstick and ravioli
PBJ Friendship necklaces
Slut plate
Crocheted BLT sandwich

I love Etsy.

the challenge

February 9th, 2008 at 6:36 pm

So, I haven’t done any further cleaning yet, but I am proud to say that my desk is still in the same condition so far and I have not added new items to it. I have also been good about shredding my junk mail right away. I have had the very bad tendency to just pile it up on my desk and ignore it – which then resulted in 2 trash bags full of paper. Still need to tackle the rest of my filing cabinet to clean off the rest of my desk among other things, but I am thinking that tomorrow might be a good day for it to help me get my mind off things. I’m glad this challenge goes to the end of the month! Want to join in on the challenge, too? Check out Amy’s blog for more information. If you join in, you could also win a $25 Amazon gift certificate! Isn’t that fancy?

why is that songs seem so much more poignant when you’re sad? and why do you keep listening to the sad ones in the first place? or, maybe it’s just me. geez.
