puppy love

Guess who got to play with a bunch of puppies yesterday? You don’t really have to guess, I’ll just tell you – it was me.

When I came back from my trip to Kansas/Philadelphia, my dad informed me that we were going to be getting another dog. My mom’s friend’s dog gave birth to six cute, adorable little puppies last month. I got to play with all them! The one I liked the best (who kept sleeping in my lap) was already staying with one of the families. There was another one, a spunky little pup who is black and white (now named Panda) is also staying with them. That left four puppies for my choosing. Two were exactly alike, just different sexes. They were dubbed “the twins” and they hoped to give them away together. They were mostly white with two big black spots over their head and eyes. There was another one that looked just like the dad, all white with one little black spot over the eye and a little strip of black over the other eye. And then there was the one I choose, which looked unlike the rest: a small, mostly brown with spots of black and white paws. It’s a girl! So cute. I’m still trying to think of a name. My mom suggested “Misha” which I just thought was weird. My dad blurted out “Sandy” today, but I think I prefer “Maya” right now. That might change.

I hope Rocky takes to the little pup well. I think he will though, he’s pretty mellow himself. He’s a good old dog. I gave him a bath today. He was pretty good about it, sitting in the tub and just looking sadly at me. I had to carry him up the stairs though since his back legs don’t work. I should have carried him down the stairs as well though because he went down too fast and flew headfirst right into the wall! Poor dog. He was okay though.

I love puppies! The end.

postcard

I signed up to do some swaps at purplepinkandorange. This month’s swap is for postcards. I love postcards. I have a little collection. For the swap, we have to send one new postcard, a vintage one and a handmade one. I made my handmade one last night, and today it will be going off to Singapore to the girl who will receive it!

It’s actually a bit sparkly, but you can’t tell from the picture. I used Pearl Ex-Press Palettes and Twinkling H20s (both are types of watercolors) to color it in so it’s all pretty and sparkly in light. You’ll just have to believe me.

more jobby things

Yesterday I had a phone interview with a local woman who runs a web design business. She had all the interviewees set up time slots and fill out a 5 page form of questions. It totally felt like homework to me and I did not enjoy it, but I trudged through it (I skipped one though) and some of the questions I just thought were weird. I thought these two were particularly amusing:

  3. Do you understand the difference in web dpi and print dpi? If so, what dpi is most commonly used for the web, for print?
  4. Did you have to look up the answer for the last question (please be honest, it honestly doesn’t matter either way).

No, I did not have to look up the answer, in case you were wondering. Anyway, when I did actually talk to her, I found she was fairly amusing and easy going. And, what was also amusing was that I was on the phone with her for maybe 50 minutes and she talked the majority of the time, talking about her work ethics, how things would go, the enviornment and all that. It was interesting.

I also went to a Job Fair at the Mission Valley Doubletree Inn. My dad thought I should go. I thought it was a complete waste of time. Basically they had a bunch of booths with companies handing out free stuff, a list of their job openings and were telling people to apply on-line. I didn’t see any jobs that I wanted to have, so I just wandered around (I even got dressed up for this) and snagged free things (a little put it together yourself airplane, pens, candy, a frisbee, notepad, dry erase board and marker, and a nail file – score!). Looking for a job sucks.

job interview #2

I had a job interview yesterday at the Beverage Factory. They’re looking for an assistant web person to help update the site by posting photos, writing copy, and maintenance. It’s nothing exciting, but it would be steady work and health benefits (I sure do miss health benefits). Plus, it’s not very far away and the office was very relaxed and laid back. They even had a puppy in the office! A brown curly poodle (without the stupid haircut) named Jake. Jake licked me a few times.

Anyway, they said they have a couple more interviews next week and I might have to come in for a second interview but that they’d keep me up to date. Here’s hoping.

wedding/trip/lalala

I just got back home from my 2 and a half weeks of vacation. Mmm, vacation. It’s nice. It’s also hard to do work while on vacation. So I hardly did any.

First I went to Kansas City. It’s not really that exciting, but we did go to a Dog Show (puppies!) which I found to be pretty exciting. I wanted to sit down and just play with all the puppies that were there, but they were busy with their handlers doing .. dog showy things. But it was fun to see them anyway.

Over Labor Day weekend, Brandon and I went to my college roommate’s wedding. I was her maid of honor. I didn’t do the typical maid of honor duties since I live on the other side of the country from her, but I was very honored that she asked me. Honor, honor!

The wedding itself was beautiful. The ceremony was pretty short and sweet (which I thought was good since my heels keep sinking into the grass during the ceremony and I tried my best to lift my heels out without being a distraction). Though since it was in Peddler’s Village (a place with a bunch of shops) and it was a holiday, there were a ton of extra spectators. Someone commented that admission should have been charged for the extras, then they could have made some money back! We were entertainment to tourists! The reception was really nice as well, I sat with my fellow college cohorts and it was nice to see everyone and catch up. I danced a bunch even though I didn’t like all of the songs (I liked some!), but it was all in good fun. All the dancing made me a little sore the next day, even!

The weekend went by really quickly. Overall it was terrific to see my friends, be in my friend’s wedding, and enjoy the beautiful weather. The only thing I have to say about PA is that Philadelphia is a really awful airport. Those people are not nice! Both times we were at the airport were not good experiences. I shall recap briefly:

Going in:
1 hour flight delay, 45 minutes to get our bags, unhelpful information booth lady who did not speak loudly and when asked to speak up, rolled her eyes at me (I asked if there were shuttles for the car rentals, she said, “No. You have to go up the escalator towards the arrivals, cross the skybridge, go down another elevator to Zone 2.” What the hell is Zone 2? Hell if I know. Follow these not so great directions to find – OMG – shuttles!), long wait for car rental in very warm, non-air conditioned Hertz rental place. Oh and the signs said “Private Car Pick-Up” instead of “Car Rentals”.

Going out:
Took forever to get back to the airport, plus a few wrong turns. Got dropped off by rental car bus at Terminal A for US Airways. Go to check in, we’re told our bags will not make it on the plane because it is now 40 minutes before boarding and we should have been there 45 minutes before boarding for our bags to get there on time. Then we’re told we’re in the wrong terminal anyway, we should be in Terminal F, for US Airways Express. Terminal F is on the other side of the airport! Were we supposed to know a distinguistion between US Airways and US Airways Express? It’s not like that at our airport. We find a very nice man in shuttle bus to drive us to F. We’re on a small plane so maybe we can just take our bags through security? No. Lady doesn’t like us. She turns her back in a huff. Asked to be put on next flight. Extra three hour wait.

Okay, so despite all that crappy airport stuff, it was a really nice weekend. The photos are here.
