I got some whole wheat flour at the Mexican market today and thought I’d try it out. I baked up some of these whole wheat chocolate chip cookies from the Betty Crocker website. Here’s the recipe, with my adjustments:
3/4 cup granulated sugar
3/4 cup packed brown sugar
1 cup butter or margarine, softened
1 and 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
2 eggs
2 cups Gold Medal® whole wheat flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 large (6 oz) bar of Hershey’s Special Dark, cut into chunks
1. Heat oven to 375ºF.
2. Mix sugars, butter, vanilla and egg in large bowl. Stir in flour, baking soda and salt (dough will be stiff). Stir in chocolate chips. Drop dough by rounded tablespoonfuls about 2 inches apart onto ungreased cookie sheet.
3. Bake 10-12 minutes or until light brown (centers will be soft). Cool slightly; remove from cookie sheet. Cool on wire rack.
Basically my changes called for an additional egg, more vanilla, a different kind of chocolate chip (or chunk in my case) and a longer cooking time. They turned out really good and I think this recipe is defintely a keeper since I kept eating some of the batter. Next time I want to try it with some Splenda and see if they taste just as good.

Yesterday, Maya got a new toy.
And then today, she got a haircut.
Almost all her black fur is gone! The top of her head used to be a multitude of colors, but the string of white that was there before has taken over! She’s still totally cute, though. But I do think it looks better a little more grown in.

BBM4 (Blogging By Mail, #4) is a totally neat food swap that Amy of purplepinkandorange told me about and I joined in on. I haven’t recieved my package yet, but my partner got hers! I wasn’t sure what to send, but I’m glad she enjoyed it. There were a few things I wanted to send that I couldn’t find at the store, particularly a “red bean snowball” – this is a sweet treat, of a dough with red bean inside, and powdered sugar outside. It’s chewy and sweet. I hope they have some at the store soon. I think they didn’t have any because they had all the stuff out for Chinese New Year. I’ll post a picture of them later when I can get some.

looking for a job is depressing. every time i get on craigslist to browse the job listings, i feel sad. it seems everyone is looking for the superstar guru know it all web person who know every single programming language there is and is an expert with all design and graphics programs. i am not this person! but, i think i have a good sense for design and can code fairly well, i’m just not a programmer. i don’t know everything, but i’m a quick learner. sometimes i think i should just abandon doing web design and do some other field and sell my soul for a steady job. i guess i’ve been feeling self-doubt and a lack of self-confidence since that last “job” i had. i haven’t been turned down for the job i interviewed for, but i feel like i’m just not going to get it and i’m so tired of doing this. maybe i need to move to another city with better opportunities. maybe i need to go back to school and learn what i lack. maybe i need to win the lottery. whine, whine, whine.

my job interview with mea digital went well. i’m not about to do any speculating whether will they or won’t they hire me, because i just don’t want to get my hopes up and think about it. the outside of the building looked a bit janky, it was near one of the trolley stations downtown. but once inside the building it was quite nice looking. the have an entire floor to themselves. as soon as i got off the elevator there were some guys playing basketball in front of the doors. they have a hoop set up right there. i had to wait for the guy who was interviewing me because he was out at lunch and i was early (i thought i would get lost) and just about everyone that walked by asked if i had been helped yet. the guy who interviewed me was really nice and casual. he’s pretty much what geeky computer guys look like, wearing a rock band t-shirt & jeans. he asked me a few questions about what i like about web design (layout!) and to assess if i would “really like my job” (i would). he tried to ask me some technical web questions, such as “what do you prefer to use on forms, POST or GET?” (POST, no reason why). then he showed me around the office and i noticed they had a lot of toys around (foosball table, among other things). it seemed like a pretty laid back, stressless place. later on, he emailed me a “HTML/CSS Test”. i was nervous at first because i thought it would be hard, but it was easy. wait and see, and wait and see some more.

I made some Valentine’s today. My real valentine will be getting some Harry Potter valentines (hmm, I hope he doesn’t read this). These are for some swaps! I like the second one I made more than the first.
ps – I have another job interview tomorrow. Will say more later about it… maybe.
