it wasn’t a very exciting weekend for me, but unexciting does not mean not enjoyable. i’m one of those people who’s perfectly content doing things alone. of course i’d rather have the company of a friend, when available. sometimes though i think, why, who would want to do all the things i want to do this weekend? a friend pointed out to me once that it doesn’t matter, that whoever i hung out with wouldn’t care what we did and that hanging out was what mattered. it was a good point.
in any case, it was a usual weekend routine. maya and i went to the farmer’s market and instead of just getting tamales, i also got some fresh zucchini (one was a light green and the other one was bright yellow and looked like a oversized spinning top). then we went off to the dog park though there was an usually high number of people there and i could hardly park. i found out they were having a swim meet. i also watched a couple of movies. “in her shoes” and “the chronicles of naria”. i liked both. the end.

The Avocado Fest yesterday was fun, though it wasn’t really what I was expecting. It was really more like a street fair with a bunch of vendors. I was expecting more avocado samplings and different takes on how to eat it, but in the end we just had chips with guacamole and a sampling of some avocado fudge (it was kind of grainy and extra sweet). The only other avocado thing we saw was tempura avocado, which we did not try. There weren’t really even any good deals on buying avocados, which was a bummer. Besides the giant avocado we saw (see above) there was also a guy dressed up as an avocado. Julia thought I should get my picture taken with him, but my childhood fear of people dressed in costumes kicked in and I didn’t want to. He had creepy arms. Is it possible to have creepy arms? Yes. So I opted for my photo with the giant avocado that could not put it’s arm around me.
We had some other tasty foods that did not involve avocados, including some chocolate covered strawberries, street-style tacos, jerky samplings, fruit samplings and shrimp tempura. Everything we bought was pretty cheap (like a $1 each) except for the chips and gucamole and the tempure. Woo for cheap things!
Julia and I both won tickets for the county fair as well. They had a booth with a spin-the-wheel deal. She went first and won the tickets and I thought I’d just win a pencil. But lo and behold, we both won. It was awesome.

It was warm a few days ago, but now it’s cloudy and gray again just in time for the weekend. Clouds aren’t a deterrent to me, they just make me hope that it’ll make other people stay home so I can do fun things. I went to the Farmer’s Market and got some tamales with Maya and then we spent some time at the dog park. On the way to the park, Maya stuck her head out the window and I noticed a little girl who was watching her and then followed Maya’s lead and stuck her own head out the window. I found it amusing.
Last night I baked up this cheesecake, using Tyler Florence’s Ultimate Cheesecake recipe. It was way better than my last attempt. This cheesecake was super creamy and had no cracks, yay! My only adjustments were I used low-fat cream cheese, low-fat sour cream, and a combination of lime and lemon zest.
Today I made up a quick spring card for a swap for my rubber stamp group. I just bought the bunny stamp while I was in Kansas and I used some of my new Heidi Swapp Theme Tape which I wasn’t sure would be useful but now I’m glad I got it even though when I first started the roll, it wasted a bunch of tape just getting to the part that was sticky on the back.
Tomorrow I’m going to the Fallbrook Avocado Festival with Julia. Fallbrook is kind of far and gas is expensive but I don’t care. I loves me some avocado!

hi. i went to kansas city, but now i’m back. i went to a wedding, and saw some movies, and relaxed. it was a swell time. among my mail from when i returned was something about being a pre-approved wine club member. it made me laugh a bit because i don’t drink wine and i can’t imagine i’d ever be the sort of person to be in a wine club even if i did. i think i’d rather make up my own club.
the end.
