turkey day

Yesterday I cooked my first Thanksgiving meal for Brandon and I, since it was just the two of us. There was a hitch or two, such as the turkey wasn’t done when I thought it would be and the outside was too salty (but the inside was tasty!). Since the turkey wasn’t done when I thought it would be, we had a mostly vegetarian meal: mashed potatoes, green beans, fresh baked rolls, cornbread stuffing, pumpkin pie and pecan pie. Mmm, it was tasty. If I make Thanksgiving meals again anytime soon maybe I’ll learn some lessons about turkey. Everything else was good though. I think my stuffing was the best part. I was going to make the stuffing my dad usually makes, which is a pork stuffing, but I couldn’t remember all the ingredients that go in it. So instead I winged it a little and make some cornbread stuffing. Mmm. I should have made more, as we had it for leftovers for dinner tonight and now it’s all gone. Boo hoo. There’s still some cornbread left though so I could probably whip up a bit more if I feel so inclined.

Besides the food, Thanksgiving was a nice, low key day. Brandon and I watched some Firefly and played with Maya. It’s been a nice, relaxing, lo-key kind of week. I hope everyone had an equally enjoyable day.

For the Dec/Jan Sampler, I made some pretty little flower pins (much like the one I made for my craft swap). Most of them I put glitter on, but a few of the bigger ones I left plain. I didn’t have enough pin backs to make 25 pins, so I made a couple of really simple beaded bracelets. I had a little trouble tying them off, but it turned out okay. The second one I made was a little small, but it still fit me. I hope it fits whoever gets it! Now, onto tackling some Christmas Cards… oy!

Sorry the photos suck, but I’m back to using the crappy camera phone for now as the digital is away in another country.

lax

Last night I journeyed to LAX and back – my parents flew out of LAX to go to Thailand and I was volunteered to do a drop off. The ride up sucked since there was traffic, but the ride back home wasn’t bad at all and was traffic-free. I drove about four hours until I had to stop (2 1/2 to get up there, about 2 to get back home). I stopped at Denny’s for a bathroom back and decided to get a sandwich. Denny’s sandwiches suck. I should have waited until I got home and made my own sandwich. They put too much turkey on it and the bread wasn’t toasted enough so it got kind of soggy. I ate it anyway.

etsy

Can I tell you that Etsy has been my new favorite place to go shopping for Christmas gifts? I love buying handmade/indie stuff. It’s usually so quirky and lovely and I adore that whatever you get from there (or any indie crafter) is a one-of-a-kind thing. I’ve found some awesome things for gifts. And, someday if I ever decide to sell things I make, it would be a place I would consider listing my stuff on. The end.

crafting through the snow

Okay, so, it’s not snowing, but I did go up into the mountains today and it was cold and windy! But not snowy.

Here are some things I have been working on. I’ve been working on my crafts for my craft swap. I think I may do one other thing, but so far I’ve made a snowy candle, a collage candleholder and a pretty fall flower pin. Looky:

I also have some other crafts to work on, such as some mini-calendars for the month of February for my rubber stamp group’s annual mini-calendar swap. I haven’t decided what I will do yet with that one. I would like to do something quirky and not so Valentiney traditional, but I think about it first. I’ve got a little while yet to think about that one. I’ve also got a few things I am working on for Christmas gifts, but since I know some of my friends read this blog, I will not give the details. But I hope everyone will like them, since everyone on my gift giving list is going to get one.

too old

My parents are going to Thailand next week for two weeks. My mom asked me what I wanted (she whispered, “a ring?”) and I told her that I wanted a Nintendo DS. She said, “Nintendo! You’re too old to play Nintendo!”.
