"Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" is the kind of movie that makes me wish I knew some kind of martial arts.
It deals with the unrequited love of two seasoned fighters, revenge for a
murdered master, and the love and thievery of a governor's daughter.
The plot was enough to keep me interested, but the score and fight
scenes were what I found especially fantastic. The best of the fight
scenes is one in which one of the aforementioned seasoned fighters is
battling the aforementioned governor's daughter in a field of giant
bamboos. Naturally, the trees are constantly swaying back and forth
under their weight, and I must
say it was pretty cool to see them swing at each other whenever they
made a sway past each other. The only thing I was disappointed with was
the death of one of the characters at the end (I'm only partially
ruining it for you - at least I'm not saying who died). I got to spend
the whole movie seeing people fly around because they were so well
trained as fighters, and yet when someone is on the verge of death, the
person seeking the antidote rides a horse. Maybe there's a limit to the
distance one can fly, but it seems reasonable to me that flying would
be much faster. At any rate, this is definitely a movie I would see
again. |
