before you go see this movie, let me give you a little hint: read the
book first. most of the time the book is better than the movie anyway,
and this movie is defintely a case in point.
now, it wasn't really horrible or anything but it could have been tweaked up
a bit in my opinion. besides, the book just makes more sense and you
get to read harry's thoughts and all that other cool shit.
here's the premise for you for those of you who refuse to listen to my
good, sound advice. harry potter (you better know who he is) is back at
hogwarts and is hearing funny voices in the walls. students are being
attacked and there's a rumor of a chamber of secrets that was created
when the school was built, said to contain a terrible monster that can
only be controlled by the heir of slytherin. slytherin himself felt
that all muggle born wizards should be wiped out and that only pure
blood wizards should be allowed to do magic. this leads the three
little sleuths (harry, ron, and hermione) to figure out what's going on
since they're so damn curious about everything. if i were to be at
hogwarts i'd leave well enough alone and let some teacher figure all
that crap out, but then again i'm not exactly hero material myself.
so, that's basically what happens. ron is frightened out of his wits
in every scene and looks kind of ridiculous to me, but he was pretty
scared throughout most of the book as well. i think the cheesiest part
of the movie (which also made me laugh - but i was the only one) was
the end when hermione comes back (after being petrified for a while)
and she runs across the great hall to harry and ron, who run to meet
her. i felt that they should have been running through a field of
daisies in slow motion while they were at it with the way they shot
that scene. oy.
so, overall it wasn't too awful. but really, go read the book instead.
i suggest waiting for the video as well, unless you're totally bonkers
over harry and stuff. then again, i think if you're totally bonkers
over harry you've seen the movie already. you know you have! don't deny
it. i rest my case. |
