The image “http://theplainjane.com/graphics/ikealamp.jpg” cannot be displayed, because it contains errors. Generally speaking, I'm poor. It's nice to be able to buy something I really like, but more often than not, I'll settle for something reasonably functional and cheap. I love Ikea because most of their stuff is pretty neat, pretty cheap, and does what I want it to. It's true that they don't have the best quality stuff - it's a veritable garden of particle board. But if I can't afford something that will last forever, I'd rather get the coolest looking cheap thing I can find. I particularly like their square dishes (which are probably a third of what they would cost at Pottery Barn), the lighted cabinets, the freaky Swedish theme, the cheap food, and the metal boards they sell for magnets (yes, I love magnets).

I don't always enjoy the fact that I still live at home. Sometimes it has its benefits, sometimes it bites. However, no store makes me wish I had a home to furnish like Ikea does. Pottery Barn is neat, but I know that it'll be years and years before I can afford some of that stuff. Ikea could reasonably have a place in my first non-parental living environment. And where else can I pick which legs I want my table to come with? Who else has such cool kids' dishes, or stuffed animal feet to go on the feet of furniture? This place is like Disneyland.
